Since the beginning in the 1950’s, INA needle roller bearings have made decisive contributions in reducing the weight and space requirement for automotive components. Today, INA is at the forefront of this industry with new and innovative solutions extending far beyond the field of roller bearings. A good example is INA’s developments in high precision components for automotive engines. INA has brought numerous developments to the field of valve control technology with hydraulic insert elements as well as state of the art technology in chain and belt drive systems.

Our new research and development centre is among the most modern to be found. Utilizing the latest technology in computers and instrumentation, INA is able to simulate accurately the conditions found in the application. This capability gives INA substantial advantages in the development of new and unique components using advanced techniques.

As a result, INA’S products are offered to the market already fully tested and proven to the standards set by the automotive industry. To meet these requirements, INA has not only implemented quality assurance methods in all production lines, but also operates total quality management throughout from the first design to the despatch of goods, the target being to achieve "zero defect" supplies. This is reflected in numerous awards which INA has received from automotive manufactures around the world.

This ensures that INA products provide the required reliability in virtually all fields of automotive engineering.

...steering and suspension systems

There is a continuing trend towards a system design approach in contemporary automotive engineering. This is readily apparent in the area of steering and suspension systems where INA has expanded its capability to evaluate the entire system rather than the individual component alone.

The INA MacPherson strut bearing has been developed using the system designer approach to provide a near ideal, economical solution. By utilizing robot assembly methods, this bearing has been developed as a ready-to-off component incorporating the mounting flange into the bearing housing. This development was largely possible due to INA’s expertise in cold formed and deep drawn bearing. The full complement ball bearing unit utilizes integral seals and is able to support both radial and axial loads. This attribute contributes substantially to vehicle stability during cornering.

Innovations from INA are also readily found in steering system. For example, potential inaccuracies occurring in adjacent components may easily be compensated utilizing needle or ball bearing and tolerance rings. Innovations such as these contribute to the overall quality which is such a necessity in today’s automotive market place.

Various designs of INA rolling bearings often provide the right solution in steering and suspension systems. The numerous configurations produced and supplied by INA demonstrate the wealth the experience in applications including suspension arms and kingpin bearing.

INA components in clutches, gearboxes, and drive shafts are setting new standards in automotive technology.

One example of these achievements in product development is the reduction of weight of clutch release bearing system as a complete, ready-to-fit unit providing a substantial contribution towards ease of assembly.

For over 40 years, INA needle roller and cage assemblies have bees utilized in synchronous mesh gear positions of manual transmissions improving the ease and consistency of gear shifting.

Today, there are numerous other INA components which have been developed specifically for automotive transmissions. INA’s philosophy has always been to think beyond the current design. This has resulted in such developments as drawn cup roller bearings, ball bearings, shifting system components, synchronizing rings and detent elements providing further refinements in the performance of automotive transmissions.

INA needle roller bearings have been used for many years in universal joint as well as constant velocity joints. The fact that INA has also developed a first class solution for assembly further demonstrates its commitment to automotive system design.

...engines

Smooth running and exhaust emissions are of paramount importance to today’s engine designers. INA offers a wide range of intelligent solutions to these problems.

For example, hydraulic valve lash adjustment elements which ensure the valves in the engine are always correctly adjusted. No maintenance is required without sacrificing quiet and efficient operation.

Hydraulically damped chain and belt tensioners are utilized to enhance the durability as well as quietness of both primary and auxiliary drives in engines. These units are self-adjusting and continuously correct for belt or chain stretch. The uniform loading substantially extends the operating life of the belts and chains and thereby the entire system. Another advantage of these components is the damping of vibrations due to the engine torque pulsations. Being bolt-on assemblies, these hydraulic units have proven to be particularly cost effective.

INA components and INA rolling bearings for automotive engines also include water pump bearings and idler or tension pulleys.

The challenges of today’s market demand a non-compromising commitment to excellence. This is what has set INA apart and has earned it the reputation as a world leader in the area of automotive bearing systems technology.
